Damage by Arson – Play equipment at the Council’s Trimdon Colliery Playpark was damaged in December through arson. This is the third time in three years that this has occurred. Suspicion falls on three male youths aged 14 to 16 years dressed in black/dark grey tracksuit bottoms and tops. The damage will exceed £2,500 to repair. Similar damage was also caused to play equipment, again by arson, at our neighbouring parish council (Trimdon Foundry Parish Council). The description of the suspects matching those of the three males suspected of causing the damage to our play equipment. Any information should be reported to the Council on 01429 880224 or by emailing clerk@trimdonparishcouncil.gov.uk or by reporting it to the police by telephoning 101
Fly tipping – A number of incidents of fly tipping have been reported to Parish Councillors. Durham County Council has enforcement powers to deal with fly tippers and we ask residents to report any fly tipping to Durham County Council on 03000 26 0000 or through their ‘Do it online’ portal https://doitonline.durham.gov.uk. It is always helpful to upload images and give a precise location which can be done using either a postcode or the Google map on the website. Councillors would also like to remind residents that fly tipping can occur on your own property and where this becomes a persistent problem, residents are encouraged to report individuals who dump bulky items in their own gardens instead of making arrangements to have them removed. Durham County Council has enforcement powers to deal with residents/tenants/landlords who fail to remove their bulky rubbish.
Dog fouling – The number of incidents of dog fouling when owners fail to pick up their dog’s mess is increasing. There is a £1,000 fine for failing to remove dog fouling and dog owners are asked to ensure that they carry bags when walking their dogs and remove any dog mess.
