On Saturday 27 May 2023, Councillors, members of the Cowell family and local residents gathered to rename the Trimdon Grange Rec after the three times FA Cup winner with Newcastle United – Bobby Cowell, who was born in the village. A sign was unveiled by Bobby’s son near to the entrance to the newly renamed park. The event was well attended with over 60 people gathered to watch.
